Beyond Mortality

Modern society is obsessed with perfection – so much so that we tend to dismiss that there is a perverse beauty in death and decay and the value, at times, of creative destruction. Life cannot exist without death; death is an essential part of nature and is the circle of life that requires nature and wildlife to thrive.

There is beauty, magic and almost a romanticism that anything living can depart this life and bring a new one. Death, one of the last taboos, shouldn’t be feared, it’s a natural process that we don’t acknowledge or confront enough to allay those fears.

Beauty can come from the strangest of places, even the most disgusting of places” – Alexander McQueen, 2011
