Home Is A Feeling Not A Place

‘Home is a feeling not a place’, is a personal exploration into the moments, sights, sounds, and emotions that encompass the feeling of ‘home’. Focusing on temporality and the temporary, the project draws on key concepts from the Chinese philosophy Taoism, as well as taking inspiration from poems of the Romanticism era.

Through photography and handwritten letters, the project studies relationships between the artist and their close friends and family, and also their relationship with the natural world. The photography is diary-like, full of self-reflections, and presents a metaphorical, poetic view on the idea of ‘home’. In contrast, the letters draw attention to our daily existence, symbolising both a sense of distance and intimacy, as they provide warmth and comfort through words.
